OHUB x NOLA

Innovation & Equity District

Opportunity Hub joins forces with Greater New Orleans, Inc., The Biden-Harris Administration’s Economic Development Administration and Louisiana Economic Development to launch a New Energy Technology Incubator in New Orleans.

Welcome to an equitable future of new energy innovation and climate technology in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Challenges & Opportunities

Since the invention of the first submersible drilling rig, launching the boom in offshore oil and gas exploration in the Gulf of Mexico and across the globe, South Louisiana has been at the center of energy innovation. Today, South Louisiana is well positioned to bridge to a higher-job, lower-carbon future.

High-growth entrepreneurship and company building is a powerful tool to grow local and global economies while narrowing the racial wealth gap. As a result, an emerging economic development practice called entrepreneurship ecosystem development has increased in focus over the past decade.  Entrepreneurship ecosystems are the local culture, individuals, organizations, policies and resources that work interactively to help entrepreneurs start and grow high-growth companies. In this economic development strategy, local developers, known as ecosystem builders, work to build the capacity of the entrepreneurship ecosystem in order to create local economic growth. While the field is new and exciting and has tremendous economic development potential, it has been limited in addressing issues of authentic, sustainable and metrics-driven diversity, equity and inclusion solutions. There is an even greater deficit in equitable representation, culturally contextual programming, frequency and sustainability around ecosystem building in communities with concentrated populations identified by race and ethnicity. For example, less than 1% of all venture capital goes to Black-founded high-growth firms. Black Americans hold approximately 7% of all high-tech jobs. In New Orleans, the percentage of Blacks technologists or Black founders raising capital is less than the national average.

As a definitive solution, Opportunity Hub (“OHUB”) offers cities, economic development corporations, as well as developers, innovation districts, corporations and philanthropic organizations the opportunity to partner with a trusted end-to-end brand, proven best practices and sustainable business models for the development of inclusive innovation, entrepreneurship and investment ecosystems designed to create racial equity in the fourth industrial revolution and beyond. To this end, OHUB is joining forces with Greater New Orleans, Inc. as a part of the H2 the Future Build Back Better Hydrogen Energy Innovation Initiative to launch a New Energy Technology Incubator [NETI].

H2theFuture’s goal is to establish a world-leading clean hydrogen cluster in South Louisiana.
